Trials for our 2027 selected squads run from Monday 9 November to Wednesday 2 December at Fred Caterson Reserve. They are open to boys and girls from U8 to U18, and to men and women from U21. First up is U16 mixed, tomorrow night at 7:30pm on Field 1.
Why we hold trials
Most of our players never need to trial. Every child who registers in January gets a place in a team, and grading in February makes sure they play with others at a similar level. Trials are only for our selected squads: Junior Development, Division 1, and our senior Premier League, Super League and U21 teams. We run them for four reasons.
1. Players train at the right level
Squad players train two nights a week, with structured sessions on technique, fitness and decision-making, and get VEO match footage to review with their coaches. That only works when everyone in the session is ready for the same challenge. Trials let our coaches build squads where every player is stretched, and none is left behind.
2. It is fair, and it is seen to be fair
For Junior Development, a panel of our Technical Director and independent assessors, none of them a parent of a player trialling, scores every player from 1 to 4 on technique, game understanding, physical coordination and attitude. Assessors allow for each player's birth quarter and physical maturity, so younger or smaller players are not filtered out early. Every player who trials gets a short note afterwards.
3. A squad place is a starting point
For our youngest squads, trials decide who joins the program, not which team they play in. Players train together first and are graded into Team A or Team B in February. Where a player starts is where they are right now, not where they finish.
4. It builds a pathway
Selected squads lead from Junior Development at U8 through Division 1 and State Cup to our Women's Premier League and Men's Premier League sides. Our Men's Premier League team began as a CHU under-15 side, and our Reserve Grade won the 2026 NWSF Premier League premiership and grand final.

Not trialling? There is still a team for you
